What You Smell on Glass represents data collection and analysis within an artistic research framework. The sculpture is an artistic response to the question of how data analysis can be translated into a sculptural form.
The work takes the shape of a three-dimensional pie chart and can be used interactively by visitors in exhibition contexts where the artistic research project is presented. What You Smell on Glass is based on the data analysis of the Glass Tasting Performance, during which participants completed a survey describing how they perceived imagined smells through glass and other multisensory stimuli.

The participants’ descriptions were analyzed and organized into nine categories, ranging from the hedonic qualities of the imagined smells to their perceived spatial location. Each category is further structured into related semantic fields. These categories are materialized as UV-printed dichroic glass panels that can be rotated, allowing for readability and interaction. The slightly mirror-like surface of the dichroic glass metaphorically reflects the participant’s own perception and imagination. Through this interaction, the work proposes new suggestions of what might be smelled through glass, potentially evoking new olfactory experiences in the embodied mind.

What You Smell on Glass reflects both my interest in language and my practice of transforming research data into artistic visualization.
